These are the remarkable individuals who know my work in leadership and leadership capacity and bring their own special insights and experiences. I would commend each of them to work with your school, district, or regional agency.

Julie K. Biddle, Ph.D.

Dr. Julie K. Biddle is an associate professor at Antioch University McGregor in Yellow Springs, OH. She teaches in both the early childhood and educational leadership programs.

Dr. Biddle is presently Chair of the Board of Directors for High Scope, and educational research foundation in Ypsilanti, MI. She is a past Chair of Ohio Voices for Learning: A Reggio Inspired Forum and has served on other state early childhood/special education consortia, local child advocacy organizations, and the board of directors of the largest Head Start agency in Ohio. She is consulting reviewer for the Journal of Research in Childhood Education and served as editor of two other educational journals.

Her education career spans over 30 years in K-12 schools as teacher, administrator and consultant.

William Bragg, Ph.D.

William Bragg, Ph.D., is currently Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership at Chapman University in Orange California. He has a doctorate in Leadership and Human Behavior. Dr. Bragg has served as a teacher, a principal and district administrator. Most recently he served for nine years as superintendent of the Cupertino Union School District in Northern California. In Cupertino, he systematically developed district wide leadership capacity. School-based, skillful leadership teams designed and coordinated school efforts, while a new, non-linear district design changed the conversations and refocused results for both children and adults. This pioneering work is included in Lambert’s Leadership Capacity for Lasting School Improvement (2003). At Chapman, Bill has continued his work in the developing a systems approach in building leadership capacity as a foundation t preparing the next generation of educational leaders. He currently is working on his first book, Collective Leadership and Organizational Change. Bill’s heart belongs to both education and music.

Anne Conzemius

Anne Conzemiusis former Assistant Superintendent of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and Director of Employee Development and Training for the State of Wisconsin. She has a Masters in Educational Psychology and Industrial Relations. She served as an adjunct faculty member at the Graduate School of Education at Hamline University, and is a faculty member for the Masters of Educational Leadership Program at Cardinal Stritch University. She co-authored the books Building Shared Responsibility for Student Learning (ASCD, 2001), The Handbook for SMART School Teams (NES, 2002) and The Power of SMART Goals. She is also a cofounder of QLD.

Ray Garcia, Ph.D.

Ray Garcia, Ph.D., has over 27 years of experience in the field of education. He is currently an associate professor in educational leadership at California State University, Hayward. Past experiences include: dean of a corporate university, chief academic officer, executive director for information technology, director of accountability, director of staff development, knowledge and evaluation manager for a non-profit foundation, principal and teacher.
Ray consults with school districts throughout the country in the areas of building leadership capacity and cultural beliefs in order to transform entrenched organizational patterns through practical approaches to sustained school improvement. Ray’s writings, research and teaching have especially included at risk student interventions and achieving equity and excellence in urban settings.

Mary e. Gardner

Gardner is the former superintendent of the Saratoga, California, school district, a visiting practitioner at Harvard University, and a professor of educational leadership. She consults with non-profit organizations and has served on five boards of directors. For two decades, Linda Lambert and Mary Gardner have worked together as colleagues, friends and co-authors on two best-selling books on leadership, The Constructivist Leader (1995, 2002). They served in top-level leadership positions, engaged in research on women and leadership, consulted internationally, and mentored the next generation of women leaders. Lambert and Gardner’s work with constructivist leadership, leadership capacity, and women’s leadership is creating new patterns of relationships among individuals and within organizations, resulting in the fuller democratization of leadership. Such democratization ensures a resilient and replenishing fabric of leadership, the essence of sustainability.

Jose Lopez, Ph.D.

Jose Lopez, Ph.D., is former Chair and serves as a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at CSUH. Dr. Lopez has been a principal and district administrator at the elementary and middle school levels in a large urban district. Most recently he was an area superintendent and superintendent in Texas. He has served as consultant for school and district reform. His current work includes coaching and mentoring practicing administrators as well as teaching administrative interns. Dr. Lopez lives in Hayward, California.

Jan O’Neill

Jan O’Neillhas her Masters in Public Policy and Administration. She is an Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle School teacher, and a pioneer in applying quality principles in municipal and state government. Elizabeth Orozco Reilly, Ed. D.

Elizabeth Orozco Reilly, Ed. D., is Associate Professor of Educational Leadership, Administration, and Policy in the Graduate School of Education and Psychology at Pepperdine University. She teaches graduate courses and presents professional development programs ranging from educational leadership to curriculum and instruction. Dr. Reilly holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and a doctoral degree in Organization and Leadership. She has served in K-12 leadership positions from the site through the district level. Prior to her faculty position at Pepperdine, Dr. Reilly coordinated the establishment of the Joint Doctoral Program in Leadership for Educational Equity for University of California, Berkeley; California State University, Hayward; San Francisco State University; and San Jose State University. A veteran national consultant, Dr. Reilly works with schools, districts, and state departments of education to build the leadership capacity of each individual and organization. She and her family live in Malibu, California.
